The last recital of 2022!
What a year!!

I am so proud of all my students!

We had our Autumn recital only 6 weeks ago and these last few weeks have been filled with snow storms, power outages, colds, and general holiday hubbub!

To get organized, practiced, and ready to perform and video oneself is a big deal.

I have issued a hall pass on memorization this time as the holiday season is filled to the brim with activity and some of these songs are new.

Life is busy.

It means so much to me that my students do their work as musicians, to carve out time in a very busy world for music. I think that playing music, rather than just listening to music, changes the energy of the day. The act of taking a breath before a line, the brain focusing on chord changes rather than to do lists, expressing oneself in a safe environment when one may feel too vulnerable to do so in day-to-day life....

All of this is HUGE.

So, thank you, students, for taking time to explore, for changing the energy of the world, for expressing yourselves, and putting pause on all the rest that you still need to do after music practice.

Take a breath.
Hear the note within the mind
and letting it soar.

May we keep our hearts light, joyous, and always ready with a song.
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Thanks for being brave in 2022!
I cannot wait to see what 2023 will bring!

Always expect the unexpected!
I am sitting in the Artisan Cafe in downtown Everett
as I watch and program the Autumn Recital.
This recital post is a full day late due to the power outage from the crazy wind storm that we experienced on Friday night. (I am still without power in my home). This whole situation makes me remember that we must expect the unexpected and let go of the worry that situations beyond our control bring. This happens often in the art of performance. As performers, we have to learn to "go with the flow" even though it may not be exactly what we had hoped for. We have to "go on with the show" even if the path has assembled some significant set or script changes that causes us to zig rather than zag. I think you get the point. :)

As always, my teaching life continues to enrich and remind me of important life lessons and, for that, I am most grateful.
I am soo incredibly proud of each of these performers and performances.
October was gone in a blink of an eye. Even though life was laden with busy schedules, smoky air quality, and the students had their faithful teacher traveling in India, these performers "brought it!"
I am forever in awe.

Bravo!
and Congratulations!

Summer Recital 2022!

Back in full swing! Summer is HERE!
Please enjoy a small but mighty offering of musical performances
from my amazing students!!
It seems as if the flood gates have opened and life is busier than ever.
I am grateful for every moment that my students are willing to devote to
their art, their voice, and their trueness of heart.
Performance brings the vulnerable.
Performance wants the authentic and true.
Performance, even through a video screen, is demanding that one stay in the present.
I applaud my students for taking the time, finding the real within the moment, and doing their very best to turn down the inside voice, the inner critic, that tries to persuade them to
stop or second guess themselves.
Performance is tough.

You rocked!
Huzzah!!

It's the Mid-Year Recital! WOO HOO!

Can you believe we are approaching the middle of 2022?! Where does time go!?
These last few weeks have been busy ones for all the students.
With life back into full swing and summer quickly approaching, we have been a little over worked .
I am very proud and excited to share these
performances with you.

Performing in our recitals is never mandatory.
I am always hopeful that a student will choose to share what they have been working on
with the world, but it is never forced.

So enjoy these fine performances!
I am so proud and honored that these are my students.
They have all come so far in the time we have been together.
My heart beams!

Bravo!

Spring Has Sprung!

New songs! New Challenges! New opportunities to be BRAVE!
Recording oneself is never easy.
Over these last two years, the craziness of "online life" has brought us to learn many new things.
We never expected we'd be producing our own videos, working like it's all "on stage" or natural, when the previous recitals were just about... performing!
The student is now performer, producer, and director. This is quite a task.
Ah, brave souls!
I hope that we may return to in person recitals so soon, but for now,
here are some beautiful performances!
I am so incredibly proud of each and every student!

Bravo!!! & Big Love!
